I need to do plant survey in my school yard.(I have to collect plants and bring em back and then dry em) Does anybody knows good web site that has procedure of it or completed or ongoing research about it (similar research) ?
Need website: plant survey? plant collection?
Read the Material and Method section of a few journal articles for ideas on your method. Paul Keddy and Gary Shaffer both would have this kind of information in their articles %26amp; they have several articles out there, but I'm sure you can find something under another scientist.
When I did research on wetland species, here's what I did: If it was a large plot, I would bag the entire plot and sort in the lab. If it was a smaller plot or just taking samples around a certain area, I would bag each sample in a paper bag and mark it w/ the date and location of collection and what species it was (if I was sure). If I wasn't sure on the species I left that info off of it and determined that once I got into the lab (either by googling its characteristics, looking through a wetland book, or asking a fellow botanist). I recorded the initial weight of the paper bag and the bag w/ the sample. Then placed the bags of each species or plot (depending on what the research called for) in to the dryer for a few days. I weighed them 2 or 3 times after that to make sure they had lost all moisture weight. We stored the bags until the research was completed encase there were any statistical problems during analyst.
